Passive scintillometer: theory and field measurements

چکیده
We propose design of a low-cost passive scintillometer that measures the strength optical turbulence by analyzing scintillation in image straight edge between two areas uniform, but distinct brightness. Two theoretical approaches to scintillations description are developed based on phase screen and rigorous path integral propagation imaging models. Asymptotic analysis both models leads four distinctive situations. uniform approximations cover most promising conclusion for applications. Theory of Passive Magnetic Field Transport
In recent years, our knowledge of photospheric magnetic fields went through a thorough transformation—nearly unnoticed by dynamo theorists. It is now practically certain that the overwhelming majority of the unsigned magnetic flux crossing the solar surface is in turbulent form (intranetwork and hidden fields). Furthermore, there are now observational indications (supported by theoretical argum...
متن کاملHomogenization Theory for a Replenishing Passive Scalar Field
Homogenization theory provides a rigorous framework for calculating the effective diffusivity of a decaying passive scalar field in a turbulent or complex flow. We extend this framework to the case where the passive scalar fluctuations are continuously replenished by a source (and/or sink). The basic structure of the homogenized equations carries over, but in some cases the homogenized source c...

متن کاملMGRP - passive aggressive measurements
This work presents the Measurement Manager Protocol (MG RP), an in-kernel service supporting flexible, efficient and accurate measurements. MGRP schedules probe transmissions on behalf of active measurement tools and reduces the monitoring overhead by reusing application traffic. A small benchmark experiment demonstrates the potential of this passive aggressive measurement before an evaluation ...
متن کاملLarge Aperture Scintillometer Intercomparison Study
Two field studies with six large aperture scintillometers (LASs) were performed using horizontal and slant paths. The accuracy of this novel and increasingly popular technique for measuring sensible heat fluxes was quantified by comparing measurements from different instruments over nearly identical transects. Random errors in LAS measurements were small, since correlation coefficients between ...
